Plasma B-type natriuretic peptide levels predict postoperative atrial fibrillation in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. peptide and cardiac troponin I concentrations after adult cardiac surgery: association with postoperative cardiac dysfunction and 1-year mortality. Interpretation of plasma brain natriuretic peptide concentrations may require adjustment for patient's age. The results of the study were thoroughly analyzed in the reviewed article. The level of BNP concentration in 141 patients undergoing cardiac surgery was measured prior to operation and their comorbidities were examined against their BNP w1x. These results fully reflect all objectives of the study which were the evaluation of the BNP predictor in postoperative patients and the detection of connection between the level of this marker and the postoperative prognosis. In particular, the authors revealed that high level of BNP before intervention was found in patients with renal impairment, peripheral vascular disease and low ejection fraction. In patients with high inotropic use and longer ventilation time BNP level was statistically higher than in patients with routine postoperative period. However, there was no predicting value of BNP marker in patients with atrial fibrillation and infection in early postoperative period. In recent years, the study of neurohormonal activation and the role of BNP as a diagnostic and prognostic marker has taken a remarkable start w2x. BNP is a neurohormone which is synthesized in ventricular myocardium in response to increased wall stress. Pro-BNP marker (a terminal …

Clinical and Biochemical Assessments of Circulating B-Type Natriuretic Peptide as a Useful Marker in Pediatric Cardiac Patients
Background Although the left ventricle is the major site of BNP secretion in response to cardiac pressure or volume overload, the myocytes of both atria and ventricles secrete B- type natriuretic peptide (BNP). This study aimed to assess and compare the plasma levels of BNP in common pediatric cardiac diseases to clarify its pathophysiological role and evaluate its po...

متن کاملEvaluation of Serum Levels of N-terminal Pro Brain Natriuretic Peptide and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Neonates with Respiratory Distress
Background: Acute respiratory distress (ARD) is a critical respiratory failure due to lung injury of neonates leading to the clinical appearance of poor lung compliance. The aimed of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic values in differentiating respiratory from heart diseases with using of N-terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro BNP) and Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) in neonates...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Serum Pro‐Brain Natriuretic Peptide (Pro‐BNP) Levels and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) in Patients with Limited Scleroderma
Introduction: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a late progressive sclerodermarelated complication, which can lead to right heart failure and cor pulmonale. Given that cardiac catheterization is a diagnostic method of choice for PAH, and considering the high risks of this method, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between serum Pro‐Brain natriuretic peptide (Pro‐B...
متن کاملN-Terminal Pro-B-type Natriuretic Peptide Is Useful to Predict Cardiac Complications Following Lung Resection Surgery
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular complications are major causes of morbidity and mortality following non-cardiac thoracic operations. Recent studies have demonstrated that elevation of N-Terminal Pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels can predict cardiac complications following non-cardiac major surgery as well as cardiac surgery. However, there is little information on the correlation betw...
